Mothers of two or more

How do you do it!?! Some days I feel like I've got a pretty good groove down. My house is clean, the kid is fed, the morning walk happened...but I still feel like it took all day to get there!!! (Note that is said SOME days). This isn't really a post about my thoughts, I'm just looking for feedback. Here's a hip-hip-hooray for mothers of two or more. I'm in awe of you.

  1. Amy, remember when you were going to school and had A LOT of classes and things to do? That's how it works for me, the more you have "supposedly" the more you do! you just organize yourself better. When you have 2 or more you think "oh, having 1 was so much easier" =)

  2. So I only have one kid - as you know - but I will say this: watching families with older kids and babies makes me realize what a huge HELP the older kids are with the younger ones! And the babies provide entertainment for the bigger kids too. So basically after years of hard work, you might get to the point when your older kids will start making life easier! Great question :)

  3. Zone defense. You have to prioritize the chores and accept that some won't get done. I have decided that my home will just be a certain level of cluttered for the next 10 years, and I'm ok with that (can you tell I'm not really into housekeeping?). Also, the older the kids get, the more independently they will play, and learn to play with each other. So, I actually have more time for some things with 4 kids than I did with just one (like cooking dinner). You just learn and adapt as necessary.

  4. You get used to it. It's an adjustment, just like it's an adjustment to have your first kid. And it's true, they do entertain each other once they get old enough.

  5. With 3 kids under the age of 4 it is definitely a challenge. But it's true that they can help entertain each other. Everyday I have to come to a decision of what's important; getting the dishes done or playing with them...I generally choose to play with them. I make it a point to keep my house decent but I want my kids to remember me as someone who spent time with them and didn't just clean all the time. Even though it's hectic, they only came one at a time, so you can adjust as it goes. HAHAHA it's so fun though and I love it!
